Sheet-fed production or coil-fed production?
Here it is, the answer for companies
that process sheet metal up to 0.12 inches thick:

Produce more, faster, with less personnel and less material waste thanks to Dalcos, the pioneer of coil-fed laser cutting machinery

From the industrial and technological heart of Italy comes Dalcos:

The pioneer of coil-fed sheet metal laser cutting machines, the only ones to feature an exclusive and patented integrated Vision system allowing perfect machining
up to 40 feet in length

The pioneer of coil-fed sheet metal laser cutting machines, the only ones to feature an exclusive and patented integrated Vision system allowing perfect machining up to 40 feet in length

Material scrap rate
reduced by up to 25%

Zero machine loading
and unloading times

Savings on warehouse costs
for sheet metal storage

Reduced cost of specialized personal
for material loading and unloading

Machining of products up to 40 feet
in length with absolute precision

The transition to coil-fed production immediately reduced our scrap rate to less than 5% and greatly reduced the need for manual labor.

Steve Sukup
CFO

Since installing the Dalcos solution, we now have a modern, fast, and practical system which is fed by a large 5-tonne reel.

Christophe Guinet
CMO

The Dalcos laser cutting machine is coil-fed, allowing us to produce long components to order without any waste.

Sheet-fed or coil-fed production? That’s the dilemma…

Sheet-fed
or coil-fed production?
That’s the dilemma…

This is an important decision for companies that process sheet metal up to 0.12 inches thick when setting up their production line. Sheet-fed production or coil-fed production? A dilemma to which the answer might seem obvious, given global practices today. A staggering 95% of industrial companies in fact choose to produce their products, shapes, and stock from sheets of metal.

But is this really the right choice to maximize a company’s earnings and output?

The truth is that opting for sheet-fed production seems more a matter of habit, along the lines of “that’s how we’ve always done it, so why change now?” It certainly doesn’t seem like a strategic and deliberate business choice, having carefully evaluated the costs and benefits.

Because otherwise, it really takes very little to understand that sheet-fed production, numbers in hand, means:

Wasting hundreds of thousands of dollars
worth of process scrap material every year

Wasting hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of process scrap material every year

Needing to budget for the cost of specialized personnel dedicated to loading and unloading the sheets fed to the machine, contrary to all industrial automation strategies

Weighing the company down with the difficulties and costs
involved in managing a warehouse with thousands of metal sheets, all in different sizes

Wasting useful production time (and time is money)
due to idle machine time while loading and unloading the processing material.

These are all problems that cost the company money, efficiency, and competitiveness… but which with coil-fed production are DRASTICALLY reduced!

That’s right, coil-fed production means being able to produce more, faster, with less personnel and less material waste.
And this is confirmed by the data I have collected from dozens of sheet metal processing companies all around the world,
in every type of industry.

LXN, Dalcos’ flagship product: the first coil-fed laser cutting machine
to feature an exclusive and patented integrated Vision system

What makes Dalcos coil-fed laser cutting machines so different and unique?

Our exclusive and patented Vision system allowing processing on products up to 40 feet in length with extreme and absolute precision.

What makes Dalcos coil-fed laser cutting machines so different and unique?

Our exclusive and patented Vision system allowing processing on products up to 40 feet in length with extreme and absolute precision, without even the slightest cutting error.

How is this possible?

Unlike traditional laser cutting machines that rely on guides to keep the sheet in place (potentially causing processing inaccuracies), the Dalcos Vision system incorporates a video camera mounted on the cutting head that frames the cutting zone and continuously readjusts to ensure it always has the exact, real coordinates of where the material is, and where the laser is cutting.

In other words, there is never any discrepancy between the cutting points programmed by the software and those effectively made on the material (whereas with guides, the sheet can easily shift and change the points of reference).

Any risk of inaccurate material cutting is thus eliminated.

This great competitive advantage is naturally in addition to the other benefits
of coil-fed as opposed to sheet-fed production, namely:

The elimination of machine loading and unloading times,
because the coil is automatically unwound by the machine

The reduced cost of specialized personnel needed to load and unload the material, which can be invested in tasks with more added value for the company

The scrap rate reduced by up to 25%, because only the necessary amount of sheet metal is processed without needing to dispose of the leftover sheets

The scrap rate reduced by up to 25%, because only the necessary amount of sheet metal is processed without needing
to dispose of the leftover sheets

Savings on warehouse costs for sheet metal storage, because it is no longer necessary to stockpile thousands of different-sized metal sheets, working instead from a single coil

In other words, Dalcos machines let you produce more, faster, with less personnel and less material waste.

“I have had the pleasure of visiting Dallan’s factories a few times. There’s a lot you can say about them, but in my opinion it’s best to see things in person and experience the team spirit fostered by the owners. I’ve never seen a team or a company so open to customer needs, with such great respect for quality and such a high level of technology. I’ll definitely be back.”

Arkadiusz Guz

“The benefits of coil-fed production undoubtedly include production efficiency combined with great flexibility: a very interesting use of the main concepts of the “LEAN Production” philosophy.”

Thomas Höckele

“Andrea and his team provide high-level customer service. The Dallan company is very clean, well-organized and provides high quality products and services. The group and the people make you feel part of the team and guarantee aftersales product support.”

Ok, so I think it’s safe to state at this point.
Data in hand, “coil-fed production” is the solution to the dilemma faced by every manufacturing company that processes sheet metal up to 0.12 inches thick.

And if you’ve read this far, chances are your business is one that fits this description.

And it is just as likely (actually, it’s perfectly normal) that you have more questions than answers after reading this.

You’ll be asking yourself…

“Does my company’s processing lend itself to coil-fed production?”

“What if it’s too complicated to work with coils?”

“Where do I find the suppliers of the coils needed for processing? Are they hard to find?”

And plenty of other questions and doubts keeping you tied to the false security of the (costly and inefficient) sheet-fed production method you’re familiar with, despite the evidence. Well, for that very reason…

“We’ve been working with Dallan, both the company and the family, for over twenty years and I’m certain we’ll carry on doing so and it will continue to be very rewarding. The time invested in launching the new combined CXN line is now producing great results for our company in terms of flexibility and savings under various aspects. FEMI-CZ is a company that, as well as an important quota of standard production, also has an equally significant quota of custom production, which has to be “invented” and organized each and every day, keeping under control both times and costs. The answer we found to both our standard and custom needs was this Dallan combined machine, which, having been conceived as “two machines in one”, further increases its use, thereby optimizing the investment.”
